Our Mission: The San Diego Food System Alliance is committed to developing and maintaining an equitable, healthy and sustainable food system for the benefit of all people in San Diego County.
San Diego Food System Alliance is a collaborative of nonprofits, food businesses, government entities, farmers, fishermen, and community members committed to improving our food environment in San Diego County.
An ideal food system considers the 4 Es: Environment, Economics, Equity & Education. The purpose of the San Diego Food System Alliance is to develop and maintain this ideal food system in San Diego County. A regional collaboration is our mechanism for achieving this vision.
The Alliance represent a diverse cross section of the food system, including: distribution, health, food security, philanthropy, production, education/ research and government. The Alliance's 30-40 Voting Members provide strategic guidance to the coalition. The Alliance has over 100 groups and many advocates contributing to our Working Groups.
The creation of the Alliance was a recommendation of the San Diego County Food System Working Group, convened in 2010, and the "Urban-Rural Roundtable" organized in 2012 by Roots of Change, County Supervisor Ron Roberts and Mayor Jerry Sanders.
