The New Roots Food Hub has operated over the past two years as a whole produce aggregation and distribution company, connecting refugee growers to local restaurants and an IRC-managed CSA. With the support of Leichtag Foundation, Moxie Foundation and the USDA Beginning Farmer and Ranchers Development Grant, the IRC hired New Venture Advisors to see what it would take to scale up the Food Hub to be either a cost-neutral (covering IRC Food Hub-related staffing, equipment, materials) and profitable social enterprise (in which case profits could go towards other IRC social services, such as the farm training program.)
