The future of San Diego Bay’s remaining working fishing harbors are currently being determined by the Port of San Diego’s Central Embarcadero “Seaport” development project. On April 13th, San Diego Food Systems Alliance is convening the region's most important stakeholders to explore a better way forward. San Diego Bay's fishing harbors are a longstanding lynchpin of the Bay's working waterfront.

Will commercial fishermen and aquaculturists have a place in this reimagined waterfront?

A local seafood system has many benefits to the region, including providing high quality jobs, maintaining San Diego's fishing heritage, improving local food security, incentivizing protection of marine ecosystems, generating economic activity, promoting education, and tourism. Commercial fishermen and aquaculturists of San Diego are important food producers of our regional foodshed.

Through aligning visions and supporting growth, San Diego has the opportunity to become leaders in domestic commercial seafood production for the 21st Century. As San Diego gazes towards the future, join the conversation among local decision makers, industry leaders, and subject matter experts. Together, we can chart a path forward that models a "Win - Win - Win" waterfront redevelopment.
